Tests & Results

Laboratory Specimens

If you are asked to hand in a specimen, please ensure that we receive it in the correct container obtained from the surgery, marked with name, date of birth and date of sample.

Booking Blood Tests

If you have been asked to book a blood test by a Healthcare Professional, please contact one of our Receptionists  by calling 0151 638 4764, submitting an online consultation (Patchs) or visiting the practice.

We will contact you to arrange booking routine blood tests for medication monitoring. We will either call you, send an SMS asking you to call us, or send you a booking link so that you can self-book.

Results

It is the responsibility of all patients to check the results of their tests. Blood results are usually back after 3 days, but x-rays and some specific blood tests often take longer. Results form the cervical screening programme can take up to 6 weeks.

Results can be seen in the NHS App. If you do not have the app, you can contact the practice by calling 0151 638 4764, submitting an online consultation (Patchs) or visiting the practice.

For reasons of confidentiality, test results can only be given to the person on whom the tests have been done. Exceptions are children under 16 years of age.

If you are telephoning  for any test results, we recommend calling after 14:00 when the receptionist is likely to be less busy.

If the doctor has asked to see you again after you have had any test done, could you please check that your results have come in before you make your appointment.

Our Reception staff are unable to discuss any medical queries you may have. They are instructed only to tell you if your test is normal. If the test is abnormal or you require further discussion or interpretation they will book an appointment to discuss with a Healthcare Professional which could be a GP, ANP, Pharmacist or Nurse.
