Tests & Results

For reasons of confidentiality, test results can only be given to the person on whom the tests have been done. Exceptions are children under 16 years of age. If you are telephoning the surgery for any test results, could you please telephone after 14:00 when the receptionist is likely to be less busy. If the doctor has asked to see you again after you have had any test done, could you please check that your results have come in before you make your appointment.

It is the responsibility of all patients to check the results of their tests. Blood results are usually back after 3 days, but x-rays and some specific blood tests often take longer.

Patients will be informed in writing via the cervical screening programme of results; however, you may contact the surgery for your results (please note they take up to 6 weeks to process).

Laboratory Specimens

If you are asked to hand in a specimen, please ensure that we receive it in the correct container, obtained from the Surgery, marked with name, date of birth and date of sample.

Similarly, if you need a blood test please speak to our reception.

Results and Investigations

Results of blood tests, x-rays, audiometry, cervical smears and other investigations are available by contacting reception on: 0151 638 4764.

Please allow 5 working days for results to come back; some tests require longer.

Patients are responsible for contacting the surgery for the result of any investigation or test they have done.

Please remember the following points:

  1. Results will only be given to the specific patient to whom they apply. In the interest of confidentiality please be prepared to identify yourself.
  2. Checking results can be time consuming so is not possible during a busy morning.
  3. Our Reception staff are unable to discuss any medical queries you may have. They are instructed only to tell you if your test is normal. If the test is abnormal or you require further discussion or interpretation then please refer to your Doctor.
