Wallasey PCN Physiotherapy Service
The Physiotherapy Service is a new service, where Specialist Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy is offered as an alternative to seeing your GP for MSK conditions.
The practice physiotherapist has the advanced skills necessary to assess, diagnose and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) problems – such as lower back pain, ankle sprains or frozen shoulder, for example.
The service allows patients who would normally present to their GP with an MSK issue, to self-refer to a professional with expertise in that field. You don’t need to see your GP for back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis or general joint pains, you can now see a Physiotherapist.
What you might expect from a physio appointment
A majority of patients with MSK problems will be discharged with advice and exercises providing a clear, concise programme to manage recovery. If symptoms did persist despite this, the patient has the ability to book back in to see the physio where further treatment options can be discussed.
The physio also has the ability to refer patients on for further care if deemed appropriate; this may include referral for imaging (x-rays or scans), joint injections or to the local orthopaedic team. The physio also has the ability to refer patients for a course of physiotherapy, such as the community-based service we provide. This would be for patients presenting with an MSK issue that requires further input from a physiotherapist.
How do I get referred to Physio?
You are able to self-refer, or will be referred by your GP.
Your GP reception will book a triage appointment
The triage appointment will be by phone, we will ring you and ask you a series of questions about your problem and then decide if you require a Face to Face appointment.
The Face to Face appointments will take place at Central Park Medical Centre, VCH,
